Projector

The projector is inspired by people that have passion and pride for what they do (Artist) and their ideals (Activist), a device that can be modified with the use of brackets so that it can adapt to different environments, from an exhibition in a gallery to an outdoor space on a protest. The Brackets are open source to provide the user with the agency to modify the projector in looks, positioning and functionality.

Project in Collaboration with: Ash Logan and Heidi Rey.

Process

It all started with us picking an open source DIY project from the Instructables website.

Then, the ideation stage started by mind mapping what we wanted the projector to be and do.

With that in mind, we continued to create a fictional Persona of our ideal user. Someone that has specific purpose for the kind of product we wanted to design. We want the Projector to be different, something that is more than just a box.

After stablishing our persona, we did some sketching sessions where we drew and discussed shapes and ideas.

Time for some quick prototyping…

To continue with the development of the design we had to ask some real artists.

In your art practice and installation work, do you acknowledge the projector as a part of the project or installation?

How do you incorporate a projector in your practice presently?

Does the scale of the object affect your practice?

Reflection

The projector needs to be versatile, need to be able to project in different angles, be able to be mounted, to be part of the installation.

Continuing with the review of the feedback, we decided to do another prototyping round. This time with more detail.

More coming soon….
