2 Side Cup

Series of wheel thrown cups inspired by the Nemesis Cafe in Vancouver B.C. The cups promote the coffee culture and provide versatility as one side is for an espresso shot while the other side is for an americano. The handle is made out of wood and functions as a saucer.

The Process…

Analysis

It started with the analysis of a local coffee shop by observing and experiencing what the place has to offer. With the help of a questionnaire, I was able to extract the information and inspiration I needed to design a cups that shows the true essence of this place.

The next step was to think and sketch the shape of the cup, the type of handle and to consider if the cup will be paired with a saucer or a lid. At this stage is when I started considering the handle and saucer to be made of a different material and possibly have a double functionality.

Getting closer to the final design I thought of having the cup be able to serve 2 types of coffee drinks: espresso (1oz) and americano (6oz).

While testing different glaze finishes I was also able to play with the size and proportions of the cup to make sure that after firing, it can hold the amount of liquid required.
